- Chatting or making calls using mobile phone
Everyone uses cell phones and it is no surprise that one needs to have the basic knowledge about numbers, signs and digits before using it. From surfing the internet, faxing documents to making calls and sending messages, math is definitely a part of our lives.
- Math in the kitchen
Have you ever noticed that before cooking anything, we always measure the ingredients in their quantity, hence making use of math in the kitchen as well? In fact, the use of stove and the adjustment of its flame also involve the use of math to some extent.

- Banking
Banking is probably the one place where math is used more than anywhere else. Going to a bank means that you need to have proper accounts of the money that you want to withdraw, deposit, etc. No one without basic knowledge about math can do anything in a bank, hence making this subject an inseparable part of our lives.
- Arts
Math is also used by artists while making paintings, designing collages as well as during dance performances. In all these cases, the size of the canvas, size of the stage, space required, etc play a very important role and deciding all these aspects is literally impossible without the knowledge of maths.
- Gardening/ Mowing the lawn
This will basically make you wonder if math is used in gardening at all. Yes, whether you are planning to sow seeds or count the number of plants, everything requires numbers. You need to know the number of holes to be dug and the number of seeds to be put in each hole. All tasks carried out inside a garden require proper measurements.
- Travelling
Planning to go on an outing? Well, you surely need to know the distance you have to travel as well as the estimated gallons of fuel that you need to use. Those travelling via aeroplanes need to know the arrival and departure times of their flights, something which involves the use of mathematics to a very large extent. Even people who travel by train need to know the distance remaining after each station and the arrival/ departure times.
- Shopping
This is probably the most common use of math in which we make a list of things we need to buy as well as make payments in the end.
